Update on Andrew-April 7th 2007

FRIDAY, APRIL 06, 2007 08:24 PM, EDT
My family and I arrived today in DC to spend Easter with Andrew. We spent some good time with him and took him out to dinner. He seems to be more energetic and alert, even though he is still recovering from his tiring trip he took to Camp LeJeune. We're hoping we will all get to spend some great time together this weekend, and maybe go downtown. His spirits seem to be pretty high. I'm very thankful that we all get to spend Easter together!

I still haven't been able to catch up with Andrew, but there have been several news stories re his time with his men. I think it was a very special day. I will post the links below:

I haven't heard anything about how today went for Andrew. His men were supposed to get in around 6:00. As soon as I hear how that reunion went, I'll let you all know.

Since Andrew's accident, he has hoped to be there for his men when they return from Iraq. Being their Lieutenant, he definitely has a devotion and love for those guys. They return tomorrow. So, Andrew got special permission and transportation today to the base where his men are returning. He wants to be there when they step off of the plane. We were all worried that he would not be able to be there because of his latest setback, but he pushed through and is there. He received a very warm welcome today at the marine base he was stationed out of. They even had a police escort for him. Tomorrow his men will return and I hope it will be a special day for him. I know it will be bittersweet--that would have been him stepping off of that plane tomorrow if it weren't for this accident. Please pray for this homecoming and that Andrew will have a very special day.

I spoke with both of my parents this afternoon. It seems that they all had a wonderful time at the White House dinner last night. Andrew and my mom also got to speak with President Bush today. He came to Walter Reed this morning to visit with the soldiers there. Andrew and my mom got to be in the occupational therapy room while Bush visited with them there. As far as I know, Andrew still seems to be doing well since his latest surgery. Thank you so much for all of your earnest prayers!
