Annabeth's 6 Month's Stats

Weight: 20 lbs 94%
Height: 27 3/4 inches 95%
Head: 17 1/4 inches 82%

  • My other babies did not to be 20 pounds till they were 1 year old!
  • We have to keep an eye on her weight because if she gets to be over 22 lbs then we have to move her out of the infant car seat.
  • December 17th she got her first real illness (she has been congested in her nose for the majority of her little life). She got diagnosed with a left ear infection and amoxicillin of course did not work so then on the 18th she had a bad double ear infection. We are so thankful to Jesus for this being her first infection. My other babies had multiple ear infections by this time.
  • She is a complete joy and so strong and so smart. As of now she says baby and signs it.
  • She started crawling the week before she turned 7 months. She is so fast now! She is also is standing some by herself now.
  • She has a temper...sadly.
  • She is still not a great sleeper so pray for mama and daddy...we are little weary. I am not able to do some things I enjoy like blogging...haha. I can already tell getting her off the bottle is going to be a huge challenge.
  • My Joycie is a Joy!

Any advice on how to get a 8 or 9 month old to eat more food and less bottle?

July 4th Pictures

We had a great 4th of July weekend in Spartanburg. It is the best most refreshing time we have had since we went to the beach with my parents in May. It is so great to have so much help and get to sleep! We went to the pool, a show, and a lake party. It is so hard to get Jackson out of the pool. They are both at a really fun age!

Abigail's 6 Month Stats

Weight: 17 pounds and 4 oz (64%)
Height: 27 1/4 inches (84%)

Head: 44 cm (82%)

The 6 month check up went well. This time we only had 2 shots and 1 vaccine by mouth. All the vaccines are vaccines she has had before. Last time she did not run a fever after her shots, but she was on antibiotics because of her ear infection. I am giving her Tylenol all day today and tomorrow. She does turn 7 months old this Sunday, so these percentiles might not be 100 percent accurate. Jackson was 17 pounds and 7 ozs at his 6 month check up. It is so crazy that they have weighed almost the same weight for every check up.

The doctor said that her top gums were swollen and she might be getting some teeth up there soon. She said that 5 months is pretty early to have teeth. Then, she wanted to see how much neck control she had and Abigail proceeded to crawl forward and backwards, and then push up from her stomach to a sitting position. The doctor said that she is not suppose to be pushing up to a sitting position till 10 months old, and that it was crazy that she was doing that. I was dying for Jackson to do everything early, and he did everything right when the book said he should do it. Now, I do not want Abigail to do things early, and of course she is.

I am starting to let it her cry it out when I put her down for a nap now. I can't rock her to sleep anymore, and the swing does not do it for her either. So yesterday I put her down for her morning nap on her stomach at 10:30 and let her cry till 10:34 and went in there and put her pacifier back in, and she went right to sleep. I have started putting many different paci's around her. Today she only cried for 1 minutes and then she figured out how to get her pacifier back in...yay!

In September, Jackson and Abigail will both have their check ups together. That should be interesting! Jackson will have his 3 year old check up and I think all they do is take his blood and Abigail will have her 9 month check up. I am so thankful that they are willing to see them both at the same time. Unfortunately, I think there will be lots of tears shed by both my of my babies.

Sunday's Best-My Pretty Girl

I got this dress actually at JCPenny online for $10 off. It is a Carter's dress with a bow and I think my total cost was $9.99 (you can go into the store through the catalog department and use the online coupon). We are planning to have the kids pictures taken again in August and I want her in two different white dresses, and Jackson is seersucker pants and I white collar shirt. She is so fun!

She is starting to rock back and forth to maybe start crawling. Hopefully, I will have video of that on Monday.

Fun Friday: Abigail is Ready to be a Big Girl

It is so different having baby #2. I was dying for Jackson to do everything early, and he did everything right when the book said he should. Abigail, maybe it is because she is a girl, seems to be doing everything early and I have no desire for her to grow up! She sits up now for hours at a time, and wants to do whatever Jackson is doing. She even does speech therapy with him. She is constantly entertained by him, which is great!

We had a great time in Spartanburg and of course she never woke up. We did keep her up till 11 pm one night. The level 2 nipples have made a huge difference. She drinks her milk in 30 minutes now like she should. I feel like a new women with 3 straight nights of GREAT sleep. I forgot my camera when we went to Spartanburg, but will remember it next week. Jackson was crazy at the pool and tried to swim. He was jumping off the side to my dad with this "I can learn to swim suit" that was Jake's. He has no fear! We are giving him a swim lesson at Gold's Gym the end of the month for $20. Yay!

Rest

We need some major rest.

Here is a recap:
  • In April, Abigail had a ear infection and started waking up and not going back to sleep till someone put her pacifier in her mouth. We found out it was an ear infection so we thought this would not last long...
  • In May, two teeth broke through the skin and she started waking up night after night sometimes after ever two hours dead asleep, just wanting someone to put her pacifier back in. Teeth at 5 months!
  • Now we are in June, and she has hit a growth spurt and the last two morning she has had to eat at 3:45 am. It just hurts to be up every two hours putting her pacifier back in. I did discover that I should have changed her to level 2 nipples after 3 months of age. I am using Dr. Browns bottles this time so I did not know they have four levels of nipples. She was taking an hour to eat!
  • She was so easy from January through March, and she still is easy during the day but has no desire to sleep. She can stay up for 7 hours which is crazy. She is ready to learn and does not want to miss anything. I do not let her cry it out during Jackson's nap time.
We are exhausted! If you know Charlie or I you know that we need 7 or 8 hours of sleep a night and if we do not get that we like to nap. Well, it is hard to nap with a baby that refuses to sleep. Any advice yall have I am all ears.

I say all this not to complain, but during your prayer time today pray that my sweet funny baby girl will enjoy sleeping as much as her parents and her brother does.

I am in Spartanburg for 2 nights so Charlie and I can have two full night of uninterrupted sleep. We are on vac and going to the pool tomorrow. Praise God for giving me parents who are able to give us some rest we so desperately need. We are so blessed!

The song going through my head is
"Grace, grace, God's grace

Grace that will pardon and cleanse within

Grace, grace, God's grace

Grace that is greater than all our sin"

Also enjoy the words to this song:

And I rest in the shelter of Your love

And I rest in the wonder of Your Grace

And I rest in the shelter of Your love

And I rest in the wonder of You!

Rest, that is the prayer for my family today.

Abigail is So Funny!

Abigail is hilarious. Both outfits that she has on here were either given to me by friends or I bought them from a friend. If you know some of your friend who are done having babies, offer to purchase some clothes from them. I have gotten the cutest outfits from my friends at church! I got her socks for Bumble Bee Boutique because I received a gift card from my shower at church. I think they are called Mary Jane socks and they look like shoes. Babies can wear these shoes until they are 1 year. I really like Bumble Bee Boutique and when they have a sell you can get a good deal on smock dresses. I got her cute bow from either Goody 2 Shoes or Doodlebugs. Do you have other advice on getting cute baby girl clothes for a good price?

Abigail in the High Chair at Chick Fil A!

Check out her tooth!

She was so excited to sit in the high chair at Chick Fil A this past Friday night! She wants to be a big girl already so bad. I don't! We normally go to the Chick Fil A on Bush River Road on Tuesday nights because it is family night and Jackson eats for free with a purchase of a combo meal and some of our church friends are always there. We would love to see you there! We have been missing in action this last month getting the swing set up. We were there Friday night for Shag night, but it got canceled due to rain, but we of course had a great time! We even got a free sample of their new peach milkshake which was so yummy! They now have an option to get a small milkshake which is great for my waistline.

She is growing up so fast! She turned 6 months old yesterday. Crazy!

Pictures April 7th 2007

Jackson is doing well, enjoying his squash and apples. Charlie accidentally gave Jackson squash for breakfast! Yum! Ladies, some men may need explicit directions for feeding! Breakfast is cereal and fruit. Lunch is vegetable and fruit. Dinner is cereal, vegetable and fruit. Oh well, I guess Charlie was half asleep. We are going to try carrots next week. The above picture is of Charlie putting Jackson to bed for the night. Yes, I have seen babies that you just put down in the crib and the go to sleep. However, we have let Jackson cry it out a couple times and it goes on for at least 20 minutes and keeps getting worse minute by minute. He is fine for his 2 or 3 naps during the day. I can usually put him down in the crib and he will just cry for like 5 minutes or so and then go to sleep (especially if I put his blanket in there). But when it is time for bed time around 9:15-9:30 it is a battle. So, we found the best thing to do is not let him sleep from 6 pm on, and then he will watch tv with his daddy and just fall asleep within ten minutes. We hope to not have to do this forever, but for now this works the best. He is crawling up on all fours now, but mainly crawling backwards. He loves to talk and even says "hey," and "da-da." He understands the word "no" now and he is starting to test me. I will say "no" and then he will slowly do what I said "no" to, looking at me the entire time. So, we are starting to put him in his crib for a couple minutes when he does something we told him "no" to. If that does not work, I just pop him (not hard) on his hand one time with a cardboard rod. Trust me this works and is biblical. We cannot just take everything that is dangerous away from him when I know he understands me. I usually only use this discipline if it is something that can hurt him or someone else. BabyWise II really gives good advice for disciplining the 5-15 month old.

He did great at the 6 month check up (even though he is going to be 7 months this week). He is 17 07 and in the 50 percentile in everything. The doctor said he was "perfect."

Grand and Gigi came for a quick visit and this picture of Grand and him is in the local Christian bookstore. They will not get to see him for a while! We also went to Columbia on Thursday night and finally found some 12 month pj's with feet at the Childrens Place out in SandHills. We have to have feet because he pulls off his socks at night. Oh yeah, Aunt Sandi gave Jackson the cute hat. Thanks Aunt Sandi!

What is the worst thing that could happen to you?

I do not know why I have been thinking about this recently, but I guess we all at some points in our lives ask, what is the worse thing possible that could happen to me here on this earth (especially if you are not an optimist, but more of a realist)? I really want you to think about that. I used to think maybe losing a loved one tragically, or having a chronic disease, etc. But in reality the suffering here on earth is only temporal in light of eternity. Therefore, I believe the worst thing that could happen to me here right now is for one of my immediate family members to die, and to know without a doubt that they did not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. I know the Lord would help me get through it, but I just do not know how Christians who lose a family member that is not saved, make it day after day with that knowledge. Right now,
Jackson is the only one in my family who has not accepted Jesus as his Savior from his sins. Obviously, he cannot even make sentences yet, but one day sooner than I can even imagine he will. What would I give up here on earth to encourage Jackson to accept Christ as his Savior? I would give up everything. I would sleep out in a tent, I would wear the same outfit every day of my life, I would go without much food, I would give up all my “necessities” to bring him up in the admonition of the Lord. Has God ever not provided for me all that I need and more? This is just my new found conviction, and I want my readers to really think hard about eternity. All this suffering here is just temporary. If I have to suffer some here on earth so that my stubborn heart can have a better relationship with my Jesus - my wonderful Savior - it is worth it. Are we living a life looking for eternity? Or are we looking just at the here and now? Are we storing up treasures in heaven or treasures here on earth? After looking at all the great men and women of the Bible, it sure seems that the ones that were staying in God’s will, were the ones who did things they were the most uncomfortable with. They were the men and women who did not try to take everything into their control, but where the ones who waited on the Lord, and trusted Him even when it made no logical sense. What is God calling you today to do that makes no logical sense? Will God get all the praise and honor or will you? Will people see a miracle in your life or will they just see the hard work of a man or woman? Maybe we should think about what the worst thing that could happen to us after all. I know some things are out of our control, but do we really live a life the demonstrates that we believe that God is indeed in control and that His death was sufficient for all? Charlie would now say "preach" to me, which I guess is more of a inside joke. Anyway, that is enough of my "preaching" for now.

“Raising Godly Children” by Hope Felts, Dr. Brown’s daughter

She started off by telling a great story about how we are going to fall but we should just try to fall forward. She was one of the most gifted speakers I have ever heard - she is definitely at Beth Moore’s level. She has received her father’s gift of proclaiming clearly and passionately the Word of God. She also quoted from a book called Snickers from the Pew, which was quite hilarious. However, she did report that sadly, one recent survey stated that 80% of preacher’s kids (PKs) struggle with depression. This survey did find that many preachers’ kids hear their parents say things like, “When you mess up you ruin daddy’s ministry and then we will not have a job or food.” Lord, please help us never to even hint at that to our children! Also, many preachers’ kids hear their father say things one week in the pulpit and then they do not live that way at home. Ouch! Is God really transforming our pastors today? Or are we just putting on a show and living a hypocritical life? Why would they want to follow a God who has not transformed his own father’s life?

She then quoted from a book called Know Your Child. She concluded that babies are born with a certain temperament, which I agree with. She asked us to consider Cain and Abel, the first children. They certainly had different temperaments. Three basic types of babies exist:

1. Easy Child, predictable

2. Slow to warm up Child (shy)

3. Difficult child, strong willed child

People used to think that people were born with a blank slate and that our environment was everything, but now there is strong evidence and studies against this theory. Paul names three “spiritual children” throughout the Bible (he calls them by name his sons):

1. Timothy, the easy child

2. Onesimus, the slow to warm up son

3. Titus, the bulldog, the problem solver but the difficult child Titus did not have to be encouraged like Timothy. Titus was a problem solver.

I had never really thought about these three men in this light, but I can see where she is coming from. Now, after having Jackson and seeing many babies his age, I really do believe that some babies are just born fighting and we like to label them “difficult.” I think God can use all men and women with different temperaments. I do believe it is important to know our children and how to encourage them. They might be shy and we can encourage them to step out in faith for the glory of God. Or they might be easy and need a lot of encouragement. Maybe they are difficult and we need to speak the truth in love to them daily. Paul certainly knew the differences between his spiritual children. I do not know if these categories are as cut and dry as these. Generally, Jackson is the easy child; however, boy does he have a temper! Right now for the last time we put him down at night it is war. The other night he really hyper-ventilated at 9:15 pm More on that latter…

She urged us to:

1. “Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him
.” Psalm 34:8

Taste the Lord, love God in front of them! Don’t be secretive with them about your relationship with God.

2. Love God’s house, have a positive attitude about it, do not look at it as work. Long to be in his house with all the imperfect people. Psalm 27:4:

“One thing I ask of the LORD,
this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple
.”

3. Pray with them every day before they go off to school. I am starting this now every morning with Jackson and it is such a blessing

4. Know your child!

"If I Had My Child to Raise Over Again"

If I had my child to raise all over again,

I'd finger-paint more, and point the fingers less.

I would do less correcting and more connecting.

I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.

.

I would care to know less and know to care more.

I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.

I'd stop playing serious, and seriously play.

I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars.

.

I'd do more hugging and less tugging.

I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later.

I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.

I'd teach less about the love of power, And more about the power of love.

.

By Diane Loomans

I am certain that concept of building up one's self-esteem is anti-Biblical, but besides that, I think this is a good poem for current moms to see. If we keep on telling our children how great they are at everything, why will they need a Savior to rescue them from their sins?

Ps-The picture is of Jackson in his high chair that we finally got up. Thank you so much Aunt Sandi for the high chair!

We Got a Tot Rider!

Yesterday at Walmart I got Jackson a tot rider. Justin told us about it, we had never heard of it, and it was only $30. It is like a baby walker, and he loves being in the kitchen with us. This morning he zoomed around in it while I made his bottle. It is a great invention! Also, some people have asked about Jackson. He is doing great sitting up on his own some, crawling backwards, doing push ups, getting up on all fours like a cat, lifting almost his entire body up while on his stomach, and tearing off all the bumpers in his crib (he is strong). He loves to make noises and try to talk to us. He especially loves the phone and to say "hey" to his grandparents. He eats oatmeal cereal still 3 times a day and now we are slowing moving up the amount of cereal to 5 tablespoons a feeding (today he had 2 and tomorrow we are going to try 3 with just mixing about 2 1/2 tablespoons of formula with the cereal). I have also been trying to feed him cereal in the middle of his bottle and he is doing well so far with that. Next week, I think we are going to try squash consistently for 3 days (they say just to introduce one new food for 3 days to make sure he has no food allergies). We have given him pears before but he made a real disgusted face. That's all for now!

Great Picture

We had a great wedding weekend in Spartanburg. I have like 50 pictures from last weekend but this picture is one of the best and I just could not wait to post it. Aunt Kelly got Jackson his first pair of sunglasses at the beach last week. Yeah! He is such a ham.
