Luke 16:19-27:
There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.' But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'
This week Dr. Rummage preached on this passage. One reason he did was because without the place called Hell, there would have been no reason to send his son to this earth to die for our sins. One interesting point he made is that Hell is a holy place because it is set apart by God and is a place where he pours out his wrath.
4 Facts on Hell:
1) Hell is an actual place (22)
2) Hell is an agonizing place (23-24)
3) Hell is an always place (25-26)
4) Hell is an Avoidable place (vs. 27)
I know we do not like to talk or even think about Hell but Jesus surely talked about Hell. Are we just afraid of a little embarrassment so we do not talk about. There is no place on earth that even comes close to how unbelievably terrible Hell really is. Dr. Rummage talks about how it is good not to be mad at anyone when you preach or teach on Hell. We should probably make sure that we have gotten enough sleep. Are we too busy shaking people's hands that we forget about their souls? William Booth wished that all seminary trained people could spend 24 hours in Hell and come back to tell the good news of the Gospel.

hey em, it is Caitlin penner from NC (well not in NC anymore) but I got your blog from Charlie's and wondered how you find the time with a newborn and a husband and family around to study and read. I have always heard that is the hardest part about having young kids.?

It is so great to hear from you Caitlin. I just checked out your blog and it is great. It is wonderful to see how you are adapting to Germany so well.
The first 6 weeks you do not have time to really study or read--all I did was memorize some hymns to sing to him---I also prayed a lot because it was a stressful time not knowing what you are doing. We have Jackson on a schedule adapted by Baby Wise and he started sleeping through the night at 5 weeks. Before that he sleept till 2 am woke up ate and then went back to sleep so we got 7 or 8 hours of sleep (not all at once but we still got it). Jackson now has 3 big naps one is usually 3 hours long so I study then and clean and all. Also, a lot of his wake time activities he does on his own like lying on the mat and grabbing things. I know that will change soon when he starts crawling around!

I was just about to write a post updating everyone on Andrew. I am glad you get your updates here. I talked to Katherine recently and they are very hopefully about his recovery, although he is still in a critical stage.
