Curtain Climber

I was told by a few moms when Jackson was a baby that he would be a curtain climber. Well, his new favorite activity to do is to climb up and down the video rocker. Yes we have a video rocker because someone in the house plays a certain college football game all summer long. Jackson really could do this for hours. We hope to transition to a big boy bed at the end of September. Any advice on how to do this successfully, I am all ears!

Also, Charlie and Jackson went and kicked the ball around yesterday and Jackson can dribble the ball with both of his feet and then aim the ball to the target and kick it very far. It really is crazy to watch and I will have to get video of it soon. We are going to get a soccer goal soon because at church he successfully kicks the ball in a goal. I think he is a little young to be playing soccer this well and we have not taught him any of this. He loves soccer and golf already (he could watch golf for hours). Are any of your little ones loving to play soccer at this age?

Babynet is coming tomorrow to evaluate Jackson speech and I will hopefully have an update about that either tomorrow or the next day.

Emily-
We transitioned Georgia to a big girl bed several weeks ago, and have not had any serious problems with it. One disclaimer, though--we did not use a toddler bed, or even a low twin bed. Her bed is an antique, 3/4 bed that is fairly high off the ground, which I think deters her from attempting to get down by herself.

Once we had the bed, we set it up in her new big girl room and told her that soon she would be moving into that bed in her big girl room. Several people recommended letting her sleep there for naps first, but we thought it would be best to just make the switch cold turkey (that has generally been best for G). So we started a countdown, and every night we would tell her "only __ more days until you sleep in your big girl bed". We only counted down for about a week, because we wanted it to be a time length within her grasp. We may have even started doing her night time routine (story, prayer, song) in her 'big girl room' before we made the switch. Then, Monday night several weeks ago, we told her it was the big night, and we put her in her bed and walked away.

She stayed in the bed, didn't talk much more than normal, and has done well ever since! We have had to stop her from kicking the wall or playing too much, but she does not get down from the bed. She has only fallen off once, and that was becuase she was pushing something off her bed and she lost her balance. Anyway, just wanted to give you encouragement--it can be done, it is a wonderful thing once you do it, and it might not be as difficult as it sounds! Sorry for the long post!

Hey! I am so scared to put Asher in a big boy bed, because I know without a shadow of a doubt that he is going to be wandering the halls when he wakes up in the morning. Jayne Mac on the other hand was not so bad. We just put her in her bed cold turkey too. In fact it was so spur of the moment we didn't do a countdown, although friends of ours did, and they found some books, too, where the kids were in big beds. She did get out a couple of times the first few nights, and it did take her longer to get to sleep...BUT the newness eventually wore off and it was back to business as usual. We did give spankings after the first warning or two, just so she would know that we were serious about her staying in bed. All has been well now, and she has been sleeping in her bed for over a year now. Hope it works out!

They can start soccer at 3!! We'll have to get Price and Jackson on the same team!! :)
Right now he seems to only be interested in baseball (due to his daddy) but he loves to kick balls. Haven't tried a goal yet, but that's a good idea!!

Leah and Alyssa-
Thank soooo much for your advice. I really appreciate hearing your story.

I really think Jackson will do ok with the transition. I guess there is more of a push since we have a new baby coming in December and I do not want to do the transition then. We will probably go to a big boy bed the end of September or the beginning of October once the bottle situation is done. He has done way better than I could ever imagine with getting rid of the bottles...he is always surprising me!

Ashley-
That is great to hear that they can start at 3 years old! My parents got Jackson a soccer goal at Walmart for about $30 and they are giving it to him for his birthday. It will be fun to see how he does with the goal. Price will have to come over and play outside with it one of these days!
