Kelly's Pictures of Thanksgiving

Here is Kelly's pictures from Thanksgiving. The first one is of Jackson smiling at his Gran. The second picture is Boo Boo sticking out his tongue and the third is Jackson hugging the very important Kelly pillow. The last picture is of our dog Millie Boo who does not receive that much attention right now and Kelly thinks she is depressed. I think that Millie just did not get her 4 hour nap in this day.

Today, I specifically pray that Jackson will fear the Lord and serve Him: "You shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him, and swear by His name" (Deuteronomy 6:13) Suggestions by Donna Otto in her book The Stay at Home Mom

I have just mastered memorizing "Great is Thy Faithfulness" which I sing to Jackson every day. It is amazing how little hymns I actually know by heart. Do I really want Jackson to remember me singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star?" I really think we dumb things down too much for our children today---they can understand a lot more than we think. The next song I am working on is "By Thou My Vision" to sing to him.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Refrain

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Refrain

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Refrain

Emily-
I think it is wonderful that you are singing hymns to Jackson! Noel Piper in her book Treasuring God in our Traditions talks about how each of her children has a song, a hymn that she and John sang to them to calm them, put them to sleep, etc. I loved that idea, and so one of the most exciting things Nathan and I did before Georgia was born was pick her hymn. Georgia's hymn is "This is my Father's World," and she hears it almost every day. Right now I am adding "Joy to the World" as well, since it is Chrisymas season, and that is Nathan's favorite. Great is Thy Faithfulness and Be Thou my Vision are wonderful hymns to learn!

Thanks so much. Jackson loves it when we sing to him, and I just could not believe all the hymns that I just knew the refrain of! I have that book Treasuring God in our Traditions and I definetly need to re-read it especially since the Christmas season is here. It is a great book. What are yall going to do for Christmas with Georgia? Also, how is the sleeping at night going? Jackson still wake up some nights, but he usually is just uncomfortable and will go right back to bed.

So I guess I should quit singing Jimmy Buffet's 'He Went to Paris'...?

Nathan and I will spending Christmas in the state of Georgia visiting both sides of the family--and each side has different traditions that we will participate in as well as incorporating our own. N's family opens gifts on Christmas Eve, mine opens on Christmas Day, we have to see both sides over 9 days and they are 4 hours apart, so it gets to be fun... This year Georgia is so little that we hope to do a few "memory making" things, but increase them over the years. Christmas season was a BIG deal in my family--we had an Advent calendar with daily activities, regular devotions, an Advent wreath that we lit each week, a Happy Birthday Jesus cake, etc. I don't yet know what all we will use with Georgia and what new ones we will add. One fun thing we are doing that our friend's family has done for years--on CHristmas Eve, she will open one present, her "Christmas pajamas". THat way she has some fun new pjs every year:-) I think Nathan and I might get some this year as well! Her real gifts from us will be a couple of books, including a good children's Bible. Any recommendations on one? What are you and Charlie doing for Jackson? Are your families in the same area?
PS maybe we should exchange email addresses so our dialogue doesn't always have to be on the blog...though that works!
